Description of the area:

Porto Santo, known as the Caribbean of Europe”, is an island about 10 miles long and 5 miles wide and has only about 5000 local inhabitants. Along with its larger sister Madeira, Porto Santo is one of the Madeira archipelago. Located in the Atlantic ocean approximately 30 miles north east of from Madeira, the island, which has a mild climate all the year long, is easily accessible via regular air crossings several times a day, or via ferry which sails daily from Funchal harbour.
The coastline accommodates the stunning 5 miles long golden sandy beach, for which the island is famous. Here you can lounge around in the sun and take a swim in the island waters which are said to offer some of the highest concentration of minerals in the world. The sand is highly regarded for offering healing therapeutic properties: in fact there is a Centre of Thalassotherapie. Water sports naturally feature the highest activities on the island.
