Detailed description:

The house is reconditioned and completely new furnished for our own use, and is suitable for couples, but also families with 2 children. It possesses a stylish and magic atmosphere, radiates peace and harmony, and is also very practically furnished. The house is situated in a detached and quiet position at the edge of the ancient mountain village of Orasso, 200 m behind the vil-lage entry and on the narrow street to the church with its 800 years old bell-tower. In front of the house door, you can seat in comfortable garden chairs on the shaded terrace with a wine pergola, but also on the roofed balcony at the other side of the house. From both places you have the view to the opposite Monte Riga, but also down and up the valley to the mountain panorama of the National Park Val Grande, the largest wilderness area of Italy and the Alps.

The sunny mountain village Orasso is located at 700m height on the slopes of the very original and partially deep-cut Cannobina Valley, 15 km up from Cannobio at Lake Maggiore. The romantic village has conserved its medieval origin by many granite-shingle roofed houses and 400 years old wall paintings, by small streets and little places. At the village entry there are the parking places, and then crossing the nice piazza you come to the hotel with bar and restaurant, and to the small food shop, where you can by ciabatta rolls each morning. The Cannobina valley is an invitation for everyone who finds recreation by walking and hiking in the loneliness of the mountains, but also for all those seeking a quiet holiday place as starting point for discovering a region full of cultural and scenic attractions. The mild climate is still determined from the Lake Maggiore with its Mediterranean flair and lets grow palms and fig-trees in Orasso.

In the sitting-room, among other things there are a round dining-table with 4 wicker-chairs and a comfortable sleeping sofa. You find collections of books, CD’s, cassettes, games and hiking maps, SAT-TV (Astra and Eutelsat), and a very detailed collection of information material of the nearer and wider surroundings. The kitchen area is equipped with numerous cooking and eating devices, and reserves of tee and spices. The refrigerator with deep-freeze partition is placed in the adjacent storage room containing also a deck-chair, a folding bed and many other tools and articles for daily use. The roofed balcony, with view to the south and over the valley, is accessible from the kitchen area, and with its two comfortable chairs, a bench and a small table you can take your breakfast there in all weathers. On the terrace with a wine pergola, between the small street and the entry door, you find comfortable garden furniture, a water ba-sin, a stove, and potted plants.

Description of the area:

Orasso is the most ancient village in the Cannobina Valley which is pulled through by a narrow and little travelled road having branches to the mountain villages scattered on the slopes. From the holiday house, you can start walking in all directions on well-signed and maintained footpaths. In particular, you can reach a romantically sited and sunny bathing place at the Orasso brook in almost 20 minutes by foot which is a small alternative to the Lake Maggiore. But upside the village, you arrive at a beautiful alpine pasture, where as a special attraction you find a giant swing mediating the feeling of floating in the skies. By foot or short drives, you will reach many other romantic places, villages and footpaths, especially mountain paths to steep rock walls and magnificent peaks. History and traditions of the formerly dense-populated valley can be studied in the Ethnographic Museum of Gurro, on boards along the footpaths, or via several books in the house.

Remarks:

If you prefer holidays in winter time, you can heat the house effectively and comfortably by means of the wood and coal stove in the middle of the dining room, additionally also with the stand-by catalytic stove. From the protected balcony you can seat and enjoy the mountain panorama also in sunny winter days. Excursions by foot in the snow are possible in particular on the diverse cleared driving paths. It takes 25 minutes with the car to the winter sport areas in the adjacent Vigezzo Valley, where you find wonderful cross-country ski runs near Santa Maria Maggiore, and nearby a chair lift up to 1700m height with several down-hill runs.

In Cannobio geht es am Ortsende Richtung Malesco ins Val Cannobina, mit Abzweig nach Orasso in etwa 15 km. Von der Piazza am Ortseingang 200m zu Fuß einfach gerade aus in den Ort bis auf ein im Weg stehendes Haus, das links umgangen werden muß. Dahinter beginnt die Via alla Chiesa (zur Kirche hin), unser Haus ist das erste rechts hinter einem runden Tordurchgang, und falls noch ein Zweifel bleibt, so steht am Briefkasten auch unser Name.
