Villa Bianconi is a remote old farmhouse situated in the midst of olive groves, woods and unspoiled nature and embedded in the green hills of Umbria. The origins of the building date back to the 14th century, when it was used as an observation tower due to its unique panorama. In the course of time the building underwent various constructional changes and in recent years the adjoining cottage was built. This cottage is for hire. The closest village, Castellione, lies 2 km away, thus lending the Villa the unusual quality of total peace and calm. It is an island amidst the bustle of everyday life, a place where you can relax and forget about everything. Yet for those who are also wish to enjoy the flair, activities and culture of the towns in the region, only 25 km away, the university town of Perugia has a great deal to offer. One highlight there each year is the Umbria Jazz Festival, where world-renowned artists perform.

The region of Umbria has many different faces. Our holiday cottage is centrally situated not far from the provincial capital of Perugia. Everything lies near at hand so that it is no great undertaking to get from the radiant Lake Trasimene to the rugged woodlands of Gubbio, from the sun-drenched and landscape of olive groves in the Umbra Valley up to the high plains of Castellucio and Norcia, from the vibrant green Valnerina (Nera Valley) – with its towers and castles – to the Monti Sibillini, mountains steeped in myths and legends, to descend then, finally, via the gently rolling hills of Amelia and the rough volcanic troughs of Orvieto. In describing the towns of Umbria the term ‘ old town centre’ seems rather inappropriate or insufficient, when you consider the countless examples of old architecture, monuments, paintings and frescos to be found here. All around you will discover magnificent mediaeval buildings and churches.
